Design Level 5 as a public space and Level 6 as a private area
The Bellagio is a modern apartment complex, designed to provide an opportunity to be surround with all of the enviable lifestyle qualities that make Sydney one of the best places in the world to live. A waterfront apartment within the complex was briefed to be renovated as a new modern and stylish home. Spanning across two levels, the apartment includes both public and private realms. The overall design utilises the best possible spatial planning to achieve an open plan. Custom joinery was requested, as well as sleek and bold materiality, to suit with contemporary styling. All design choices were made to suit the everyday and social lives of the client.
Upon entry, natural sunlight saturates all areas of the apartment. The public realm exudes a relaxed yet vibrant vibe, with sophisticated, calming tones in the choices of materiality and furnishing. A stunning six seater dining table sits in the centre of the space, with custom bifold doors behind that frame the panoramic views of the Parramatta River. The adjacent, inviting living room includes custom entertainment joinery that stands out among the minimal choices of furnishing. The joinery utilises crafted natural textures of stone and timber in contrast to the dark polyurethane doors. These bold warm tones within the materiality are transferred into a custom made kitchen. Although a small space, the layout achieved a clever design for a functional kitchen. Light brown v-groove top cabinets introduce a two tone aspect to this polyurethane cabinetry. The space also includes a small yet well designed powder room, with custom joinery and a hexagon tiled feature wall that brings a quirky sense of play to the space.
The entertainment nature of the apartment is extended to a large outdoor balcony. A custom pergola provides shading to an open air eating and living area. The materiality used for the kitchen is echoed in the finishes of the alfresco barbecue kitchen. B&B Italia outdoor furniture for dining and seating within the space further accentuates a sophisticated pared back vibe. Beyond the pergola, a custom spa sits within a timber deck. This idea was introduced to allow the luxurious experience of sitting in a warm bath appreciating the views of the Parramatta River.
The custom made staircase is one of the main features of the space. The golden timber reverberates warmly on the concrete floor. Taking the journey up the stairs gradually alters the public space perception and transforms into the private realms. The apartment was designed to have two bedrooms, a guest and master suite. Both rooms include generously sized ensuites and access to a private balcony. Modern, stylish choices of materiality and furnishings are mirrored in both rooms, however the master bedroom introduces certain design aspects that ensure further luxury. For example, a large custom built open walk-in wardrobe was designed to hold all types of wardrobe accessories, a feature wall bed head that introduces different tones and textures to the minimal stylish space, and a custom made vanity within the ensuite.
